Semester Final Exam - Period 3

Favorite Blog
This was my favorite blog post this year because this is when our group truly came together & mastered this project. First, we had to research the photographer so we all had to learn about him & what kinds of photographs he takes. The type of photographs that caught our eyes, were they jumping photos. After researching, we got to use the camera & started trying to capture each other jumping in mid air, it was extremely fun, & we took some fantastic pictures.

Picture
This is my favorite photo of the semester because this is the very first day we went out to attempt taking pictures with the jumping project. Not only was this on the first day, this was on the first try! So again, I love this picture because I captured the moment at the perfect time & our group had a goal & we concurred it on the first day like professionals.

Best Photos

This is one of my best photos because of how their facial expressions are, really explains the picture. Roelyne has such a serious look & Mayra has such a calm, kind of sad look. I really think that the black that both of them are wearing really adds drama to the picture.

Above you understand why I like this picture a lot. But, I also think this is THE BEST picture. The picture explains itself....

Working In Groups

Advantages
  • Can work together to get things done quicker.
  • Help each other.
  • Get to know everyone better & have fun.
Disadvantages

  • Argue with each other if we do not agree.
  • Fights over who wants to use the camera.
  • Get frustrated when a group member is not doing what they are suppose to.
Phrase From Life Magazine's Founder
"Picture perfect."

Henri Cartier-Bresson
The three things that were aligned were the:

  1. Head
  2. Eye
  3. Heart

What project would interest YOU during second semester?

I would like to do the same kinds of projects, I would like for our group just to be a little bit more on our own.

Why do you think Mr. Farley has a "Hecka Free Zone?"

I do not mind. If that is your rule, I am going to do my best to follow it. But I do not remember why we can not say it....

Semester Final

I chose this photo because the facial expressions that was made was similar and matched with what they were feeling.

The reason I like this photo is that the background, lines, adds a different appearance to the photo.

The reason I chose this photo is that it goes with the concept of our project and the setting makes it better.

I chose this photo because the placement of both people add a different and new feel.

This photo is great because of the way the light reflecting on her face give and aspect of why her posture created a deeper affect on why she placed herself in that setting.

I chose this photo simply because the way both people set themselves up, in a way that conveyed a new aspect to what you see.

Masters Photos- Philippe Halsman

Brief Biography
Philippe Halsman was born in Riga, Latvia & began to take photographs in Paris in the 1930s. He opened a portrait studio in Montparnasse in 1934, using an innovative twin-lens reflex camera that he had designed himself. He arrived in the United States in 1940. In the course of his career in America, Halsman produced reportage & covers for most major American magazines, including a record 101 covers for Life magazine. In 1945 he was elected the first president of the American Society of Magazine Photographers, where he led the fight for photographers' creative and professional rights. Halsman began a thirty-seven-year collaboration with Salvador DalĂ in 1941 which resulted in a stream of unusual "photographs of ideas." In the early 1950s, Halsman began to ask his subjects to jump for his camera at the conclusion of each sitting. These uniquely witty & energetic images have become an important part of his photographic legacy. Philippe Halsman died in New York City on 25 June 1979.
Our Group Was Inspired
When we researched Halsman, we saw the jumping photographs. Because of that, the next time we went out with the camera, we tried it & we enjoyed it. So, Halsman's jumping photographs really inspired us to do that.

The 3 main factors I learned is : that when taking a picture the subject has to remain in one position and to stay still, there needs to be proper lighting, and to eliminate distracting backgrounds.

Cropping for Better Composition

Before

After
The cropped photo illustrates lines and a view point rule of composition because it shows that repetition has a massive impact on the composition. So the effect is that it has a message that the photo conveys.

Canon EOS Rebel T3i Review

My Review
Based on what I've been reading, existing T2i users will recognize the shape and feel of this camera, as it's an almost identical design. The T3i is slightly bigger and heavier, and it has a much better hand grip than its predecessor. Unfortunately, because of the camera's articulated screen, the 4-way controller is somewhat smaller. But the T3i is another sturdy and well-built camera that will give its users years of pleasure.
